Nice Things Said Re: EWN

  • "Dan Wickett is serious about a good read. But the EWN email list doesn't just deliver his sure-footed reviews; it also brings you news and connections to other writers. Sign up now - he understands what readers want to know about books." Quinn Dalton, author, Bulletproof Girl

"Mr. Wickett is that rarely heard from but best of all possible reviewers - the dedicated and knowledgeable fan. He writes clean-cutting and fresh reviews that represent a sensibility unspoiled by over-exposure to the biz of books, but deeply in love with them." Daniel Woodrell, author, Winter's Bone

"Dan Wickett is a reader's best friend. Not only does he read and trenchantly review new work, but he looks back to books that deserve ongoing readership. I've lost track of the number of times he's led me to boks that I overlooked (or never knew about), and that were a delight. There aren't many reviewers I will let shape my library, but Dan Wickett is one." Erin McGraw, author, The Baby Tree

    The Third Day Book Club

What a cool idea!  Patry Francis, whose debut novel, The Liar's Club, will be coming out next February, has come up with quite a cool book club idea - The Third Day Book Club.

The idea she came up with is ideal in the simplicity of it - in the beginning of a month, an announcement is made at her blog regarding the title of the next book they will read and review/discuss.  Those who wish to participate (and she's got a strong group of over 20 players already) get a copy, read it and before reading anybody else's review of the book, either post a review at their own blog, or in the comments section Patry has set up at her blog, on the third day of that following month.

Perhaps a tiny portion of my belief this is a great idea is that the first book, discussed November 3rd, was Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Half of a Yellow Sun, and she just announced that the December 3 title will be Daniel Woodrell's Winter's Bone.  Gee, those two titles sound familiar to any readers here?  I hope they continue to grow and use the same incredible taste as they move through the 12 third days of 2007.

There's nothing more fun than sharing a great book with friends--as you well know. Thanks for the mention, Dan.

Patry always has such good ideas!
