Hello EWN readers,
For the past five years, the EWN has had two holiday season events for the community of readers and writers that has been developing. One is the Holiday Gift Email – an email sent to each member (see upper left-hand corner of the blog) sometime between Thanksgiving and December 25 containing short stories, poems, essays or novel excerpts, previously unpublished, by other EWN members. I have to say that I’m really excited about the one being put together for you this year (names rumored early on to be involved include Roy Kesey, Jeff Parker, Rachael Perry, Kyle Minor, and the always interesting, others).
The other annual event is the Holiday Book Offer. It is this that I’m writing about now. Each year, I’ve worked with an author and their publisher, to arrange for EWN members to be able to purchase a short story collection, signed by the author, and mailed to whatever address you choose, at a total price equal to, or less than, the cover price of the book.
I’ll be honest and say I don’t know how the prices compare to Amazon.com, or any other online services, but to me it’s still a bargain. The offer is not limited to a single copy either – if this seems like the perfect bailout holiday gift for your six brothers and three sisters, buy that many copies and let me know if you want them sent to you or their individual addresses.
This year, the author/title/publisher combination is:
Quinn Dalton, Stories from the Afterlife, and Press 53.
I’m so far behind in my reviewing that I have not yet officially reviewed this book, but can tell you at this time, it will be receiving 4.5 stars. I think Quinn is one of the great up and coming young fiction voices on the scene and personally devour every word she writes. I had the pleasure of reading many of the stories from this collection when published in literary journals, and my re-reading recently of them in this collection had me finding even more reasons to enjoy them.
Press 53 has indeed worked with the EWN. Typically, buying the book new would set you back $16, without Quinn’s witty inscription, plus you’d need to either go to the store, or order it online and pay postage. But, thanks to Press 53, the EWN can offer this book to you signed by Quinn, inscribed as
you wish (so long as it’s nothing that might lead to Quinn seeing a little jail time), mailed to whatever address you’d like (though, if it does need to leave the United States, we’ll have to add a little bit of postage – just the difference between the cost of mailing within the States and to your own humble abode), all for the less than cover price. It will only cost you $15 per copy. And, you may order as many copies as you like. Order for yourself, your family, and your friends. Don’t buy any copies for your enemies, because I know you won’t want them to have this much enjoyment.
This offer will come one or two more times between now and early November.
If you are interested, send a check for $15.00 made out to Press 53 to the address below:
Press 53
6610 Shallowford Rd
Suite 202
Lewisville, NC 27023
Or visit their website (www.press53.com) and use their Paypal, putting the EWN Holidy book offer information in the note.
At the same time, shoot me a reply email letting me know the check is on the way. In that email, please let me know how many copies, what you’d like Quinn to write -in the past, with gifts, I’ve used:
“So and So,
Merry Xmas 200* from Dan Wickett.” Plus any message the author would like to add
And then let me know what address(es) the book(s) should be sent to.
Thank you all very much for the comments and other various support you’ve offered the EWN this past year. We’re 712 individuals stronger than exactly one year ago, and the readership here at the blog continues to grow as well - greatly thanks to your word of mouth!
Enjoy,
Dan Wickett
