As in, go order her newly published chapbook, We know what we are, from Rose Metal Press.
Dinty W. Moore was the guest judge and while everybody knows he has incredible taste in non-fiction from his editing at Brevity, his taste in fiction is just as top-notch. He describes Mary's writing as:
"... dream-like, precise, fresh, unexpected, cumulative, delightful, and at times, incantatory."
as well as:
"... bursting with moments of stark urgency and unexpected humor, with imagery that moves seamlessly from the bizarre to the oddly familiar, and situations that shift from the ludicrous to the undeniably sad."
Bursting, in particular, seems to be a great descriptive for Mary's work. Two of her recent flash fictions made it into this year's Best of the Web and dipping in and out of this collection I would be surprised if we don't continue seeing her name in anthologies for years to come.
Another great book from Rose Metal Press, definitely a press you want to keep track of, especially when it comes to shorter short stories.
