That's right, it's time to roll out the statistics for the year 2005 and the Emerging Writers Network:
The EWN averaged a very healthy 39 new members per month last year, with a couple of huge 70-80 new member months the second half of the year.
In terms of books reviewed there are several ways to break it down:
Gender (Wow is the EWN sexist!):
Males 26 individuals reviewed and 49 books total
Females 14 individuals reviewed and 16 books total (just under 25%)
Type of book:
Poetry collections 21 (are you kidding me, nearly 33% of the book I read were poetry collections?)
Novels 19
Short Story collections 18
Non Fiction 6
Children's books 1
How did I acquire the books?
Publicist sent them - 33 (just over half)
Author sent them - 21
I bought the book - 11 (considering I know I bought well over 40 books this year, it appears I've spent a healthy amount of money that I haven't followed through with the reading yet).
When were the books published?
27 of the books were published during the 2005 calendar year and 38 from earlier dates
What publishers did I read?
49 publishers were represented with Picador USA and the University of Georgia Presses as the two most frequently spotted names on the spines.
How many Emerging Writers?
23 of the books were authors debut efforts - and the list includes ten follow up efforts from Gary Fincke and 7 follow up efforts from Ron Rash, take these out of the mix and the 23 is nearly half of what I read this year.
English only this year?
Three of the books were translated into English for my benefit (well, not just my benefit) and I had the pleasure of interviewing all three of the translators.
Omg, i can't believe i finally have found such blog. It is just i've been looking for.
Statistics, info, reviews and news! Thanks!
