Joining in with what we've been doing with Unsaid IV, and Hobart 11, we'll be reading Redivider Volume 7 Number 2 (Spring 2010) and doing a Q&A with Editor-in-Charge, Matthew Salesses.
David Huddle - Hilltop Sonnet
I'm a big fan of David Huddle and think he's one of those "established writers deserving wider recognition" that I speak of in the EWN mission statement. What led to the decision to lead off the new issue of Redivider with this particular poem?
Matthew Salesses
Redivider is a huge David Huddle fan, too, and I think I can speak for the poetry editors when I say that we were thrilled to receive something from him. "Hilltop Sonnet" had to be reformatted slightly in order to fit into our issue, and the way the sonnet looks on the page was a large factor in why I wanted to lead off with it. I wanted something different that would take hold of the reader and bring her into our pages. I like the way the poem looks like a hill on its side, breaking at the Petrarchian break, when people step in and change the dynamic of nature in a lonely, isolating way.
