As it has been for a handful of years, May will be Short Story Month around the EWN. Once again Steven Seighman has been kind enough to design a logo for the occasion.
Some books that I am absolutely planning on taking a look at--be it single stories, multiple stories, or even full collection--include:
Love is Power, or Something LIke That - A. Igoni Barrett (Graywolf Press)
Is That You, John Wayne? - Scott Garson (Queen's Ferry Press)
Stop Here, My Friend - Merrill Joan Gerber (Houghton Mifflin--and soon to be Dzanc rEprint)
Sightings - B.J. Hollars (Indiana University Press)
Understories - Tim Horvath (Bellevue Literary Press)
Don't Kiss Me - Lindsay Hunter (FSG)
This Close - Jessica Francis Kane (Graywolf Press)
Salton Sea - George McCormick (Noemi Press)
Bear Down Bear North - Melinda Moustakis (University of Georgia Press)
Vampires in the Lemon Grove - Karen Russell (Knopf)
Byzantium - Ben Stroud (Graywolf Press)
An Elegy for Mathematics - Anne Valente (Origami Zoo Press)
Troublers - Rob Walsh (Caketrain)
We Live in Water - Jess Walter (Harper)
The Era of Not Quite - Douglas Watson (BOA Editions)
The Woman in the Woods - Ann Joslin Williams (Eastern Washington University Press)
I'm so glad to see your post for May National Short Story Month. I'm finding most people don't know much about it. Shorties are more than just fashionable now. Flash fiction is becoming a standard lunchtime read.
I write a weekly blog about classic shorties, and I can see that interest in reading shorties are gaining favor. I'm tweeting your post. It's wonderful! Thank you for honoring the short story.
